Technology in schools is overwhelming at the moment for both teachers and students. But we need to enbrace it and ride the technology train because technology is incorporated into everyday living and the business world. Students need to learn vital ICT skills such as multitasking, collaboration and inovative for future careers and they have already achieved these skills through such tools as myspace and facebook. At school the new government issue laptops have tools such as Microsoft Office Power Point that allows student to create assessment tasks with digital pictures, sound, website links which requires multitasking. Students can upload their work into Wikis and blogs to share their work with others. Photoshop and Dreamweaver allowa students to use their imagination in a broad range of ways.
It may take some time before teachers and students have experienced all the software the laptops offer. A down side to this is that time can be wasted using the technology rather than meeting learning outcomes.
